SIGHTSEEING

Spend the day at Litchfield National Park. Tumbling waterfalls, mammoth termite mound ‘forests’, hiking trails and campgrounds make Litchfield a popular year-round destination.Only a 60-minute drive south of Darwin, Litchfield National Park is possibly the Northern Territory’s best-kept secret. The park is filled with stunning waterfalls and waterholes that are surrounded by monsoonal vine forests – all of which offer a cool respite on warm summer days.

  • The Cathedral Termite Mounds are located about 17km from the eastern edge of Litchfield National Park.
There is a viewing area with boardwalks where you can wander amongst the mounds and learn more about the fascinating structures and their
    inhabitants.
  • Tolmer Falls is a large waterfall that can be admired from a viewing platform accessible to people of all abilities. From the carpark the viewing platform is a short 400m walk along a sealed pathway. The top time to see Tolmer Falls is during the wet season when the water is flowing at its best.
  • Bluey Rockhole is set among several small, rapid flowing streams in Litchfield National Park. The water ranges from small deep plunge pools to shallow rock pools.

the rock holes are a place to lounge around in the natural flowing water streams.

  • Bamboo Creek Mine was established around 1906, the Bamboo Creek Tin Mine provides an insight into the small scale mining activities of the era, and its ruins are a reminder of the park’s varied past.
  • Wangi Falls is one of the most popular swimming holes in Litchfield National Park The falls flow all year round. The swimming hole is a short accessible walk from the carpark. A large green grassy picnic area with tables is located next to the carpark.
